The Unseen Power of Prayer: A Catholic Perspective
$14.95

Did you know that prayer is not about just words but about a relationship, that with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? As author Jim McDevitt writes “The power of prayer is not about your power, but the power you have allowed inside: Christ Himself.”

This book covers prayer from a number of different angles, all with the aim of allowing Jesus to dwell within us in what the author Jim Mc Devitt calls His “Mystical Humanity”. This book is no dry treatise, not by any means! Mr. McDevitt brings his life experiences, as well as his work as a retreat leader front and center into this volume. As he writes. “The idea behind this book is to create a heightened awareness of the living, indwelling presence of Jesus in the lives of the faithful.”

It makes a very readable introduction to the basics of prayer with chapters on such subjects as the Mass and the Rosary. Other engaging chapter titles include “Become Alive with the Life of Christ,” “Trust Jesus” and “Encourage Others”.

For those of you who might have trouble praying or feel that dryness we all experience at times, the author’s chapter entitled “Engage in Dialogue Prayer” is especially useful. For Mr. McDevitt, prayer is not just reciting verses from books or memory. It is about allowing Christ to come into our hearts and souls and engaging Him in the relationship He so much wants to have with all of us. (After all, didn’t Jesus speak of His thirst for our love on the Cross?)

Mr. McDevitt clearly wants very much to share the peace and joy he’s experienced in his relationship with Jesus with all of us. Speaking of sharing, he writes “Jesus is that unseen fire deep within your soul. But you must fan the flame, or else it will become a tiny spark with no warmth to share.” Jesus once said in the Gospel “I have come to set the earth on fire and how I wish it were already blazing!” (Luke 12:49) Let His fire burn in your soul, with help from this inspiring book! Paperback; 160pp.
