St. Joseph Daily Prayer Book
$4.95

Would you like to pray as the Church does? This book can give you a deeply fulfilling experience in praying from what we call the Breviary, also known as the Liturgy of the Hours. As Father John Murray says in its introduction “Praying the Breviary used to be the exclusive prayer of priests and religious, but it truly belongs to all the Church.” (That includes all of us!) He invites us to savor the “richness and beauty” of the Liturgy of the Hours in this book.

Fr.  Murray calls this an “abridged” version of the Morning and Evening prayer from Week I of the Breviary, but don’t let that fool you into thinking there’s not much here! There are plenty of wonderful prayers and selections from scripture in these Breviary excerpts, along with valuable reflections to begin and end your day in God’s presence.
And this prayer book doesn’t stop there. It includes additional sections that cover readings and prayers:
  • For Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost
  • In honor of the Holy Eucharist
  • In honor of Mary, the Mother of God
  • From the Saints and Spiritual Writers (including some great selections from St. Augustine, St. Benedict, and St. Therese of Lisieux, among others!)
  • For penitential services
Fr. Murray also includes a brief essay entitled “Helps for Prayer” that contains some constructive advice for a better prayer life. He notes, for example, that you don’t have to be St. Thomas Aquinas or some other great theologian when you approach God. Just give Him some special time in prayer each day listening to Him as well as speaking!
All in all this is a very valuable and yet accessible collection of material to help us all on the road to Eternal Life! It is no wonder that there’s even a two page section of lined paper at the end of the book entitled “Days of Retreats.” Bring this little volume along with you on your next (or first) one! 256pp.; Paperback.
